Mini Materials Recovery Facility (MRF): How Recycling Works
Meets goals 4A, 4B, 6B, 12E, 13B, 21A
A miniature model of an actual Materials Recovery Facility with sorting belt, bins, gloves (to protect hands while sorting) and "to the landfill" bin. A great activity. Kids can use the hand crank to activate the belt, sort through the recyclables and determine what stays and what goes- to the landfill.
30 min., ages 5-12, a video field trip to the BFI Recyclery in Milpitas, California. Shows what happens to our recyclables after they get picked up.
